Important information about Concussion Policy and Rowan's Law:
What is Rowan's Law:
Rowan’s Law was named for Rowan Stringer, a high school rugby player from Ottawa, who died in the spring of 2013 from a condition known as second impact syndrome (swelling of the brain caused by a subsequent injury that occurred before a previous injury healed).
Effective July 1, 2019 a new rule requires the confirmation of review of the Government of Ontario Concussion Awareness Resources and the Skate Ontario’s Concussion Code of Conduct for all athletes under 26 years of age and parents/guardians for athletes under 18 years of age.
Parents will be required to complete the Rowan’s Law Acknowledgement Form for Athletes and Parents/Guardians prior to the start of lessons or on the first night of skating, Tuesday October 5th. All skaters require a completed form in order to participate in skating programs. This acknowledgment is also included as part of the registration process.
Parents can download/view Skate Ontario's Concussion Policy, the Skate Ontario Concussion Policy Return-to-Play Form, and the Concussion Waiver.
